bassist, vocalist, songwriter
Hannah Jane Boissonneault is a composer-performer currently based in East Lansing, Michigan. Through her work as a composer, bassist and vocalist of the progressive alternative band Blank Slate, and the recent launch of her studio and live classical/indie folk project Feels Like Honey, Hannah strives to create music that explores the color and texture of her experiences.
Incorporating her experiences in writing and performing progressive metal, indie, folk, and jazz, she seeks to interconnect various musical communities through her compositions. She is an alumni of the Unheard of Ensemble's 2020 Collaborative Composition Initiative, the 2019 Atlantic Music Festival (Waterville, MN) and the 2019 Fresh Inc. Festival (Kenosha, WI). She has participated in reading sessions with members of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra (2018), and ensemble Roomful of Teeth (2020).
With a passion for the contemporary rock industry, Hannah is endorsed as an artist with Balaguer Guitars. She is the lead vocalist and bassist of progressive alternative band Blank Slate (2016-present). They have performed alongside numerous acts in the progressive community, including Silent Planet, Hail the Sun, Sianvar, and Strawberry Girls. The band released their first two EPs, "Animate," and "I Have Considered the Following," in 2017. In 2019, they released three singles, "Figures," "Dedicate," and "Verified." Their first music video, "Figures," explores the lines between indie and post-rock with a lyrical spin.
Hannah recently completed her Bachelor of Music in Composition at Michigan State University, where her primary mentors were David Biedenbender, Zhou Tian (composition), and Rodney Whitaker (jazz bass). She is looking forward to moving to Ann Arbor, Michigan, this fall, where she will be beginning her Master of Music in Composition.
